A Roman soldier was a bit like a moderm day 'biker' - lots of bits of leather and metal hanging off the leather! By running your computer mouse over the soldier, you can find some of the equipment that was standard issue for the Roman soldier.
The book 'Celtic Fire and Roman Rule' describes how a typical Roman soldier was equipped and how the army was organised.
Use the information from the picture on this page and from the book to describe his fighting and marching kit. As well as the items on the picture, you will need to include information on the gladius (sword), his belt, his apron and his backpack - and what he carried in it!
How was the army structured? What can you find out about how the soldiers worked together when fighting? Who could be a soldier in the Roman army?
