Palling - A History Shaped by the Sea
About 30 years ago we published a booklet on Sea Palling; it sold out a long while ago, so we thought it was time for an update and a reprint. Visit Sea Palling on any warm summer's day and you'll find it's the ideal place to find spacious and unspoilt beaches in a quiet rural setting. The village of Palling acquried the prefix 'Sea' early in the 20th century when it became a modern holiday retreat.
But as this book illustrates, the 'place of Paelli's people' has a much longer and more interesting history than that of a seaside haven. Bronze age and iron age artefacts have been found on the beaches, thundering seas have broken through the dunes, medieval landlords have acquired fearsome reputations and beachmen have ventured out to vessels offshore to salvage and to smuggle. Ronnie Pestell's original text has been enhanced by that of his friend David Stannard to bring Palling's story into the present millennium.
