Life on a Medieval Street
Norwich is rich, both historically and archaeologically. This booklet describes the history of one particular block of property which was excavated by the Norwich survey. One of the most important sites excavated by the Norwich Survey was on Alms Lane, north of the river. It once lay just outside the Saxon defences of the city and has produced one of the longest and most varied sequences of occupation known from any English medieval town.
The discoveries combine with surviving documentary evidence to provide a remarkably rich insight into the development of life on a series of ordinary urban tenements.
